This post features the build of the Ebony Blade from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
I bought a plastic pipe and flattenend the blade part. This will be later covered with foam sheets. She foam was shaped into a blade with a cutting knife and then sanded down to get a smooth surface.
The foam sheets are glued together with Gorilla glue.
For the first time I tried a new thermoplastic named Cosplayflex.
It is similar to Worbla, works the same, but has a few new features, which are actually really handy:
It has a white color, which allowed me to see uneven surfaces faster than with Worbla. Usually when I primered my worbla pieces I often realized I didn’t smoothe out all the parts. Which was frustrating and too late by then.
Cosplayflex also has a better glue, it really bonds fast and it’s tackier than Worbla.
I also prefered sculpting with cosplayflex, because it was easier to sculpt details, it was a bit softer I can say.
It is also lighter and more flexible.
The balde was a speed build, so I didn’t really had the time to test it carefully, but will do next time, when I start my new project. I can recommend this material, though. It is safe to work with and if you worked with other thermoplastics before, you’ll like this one, too :)
For the golden hightlights I bought something called Rub’n Buff, which is a metalic paste that can be put on the surface with a finger or with a piece of cloth. They recommend to polish it after a quick dry to get a nice metalic effect. Rub’n Buff has many colors and I got me silver, gold and black.
