There are few games out there that can make such a lasting impression, let alone be relevant 10 years later as Skyrim is. With the rise of more game developer companies, it almost seems as if we have more of a backlog of games, now more than ever.
Yet there are some that stand the test of time. Skyrim fits that bar and it does so in two unique ways which have helped keep its popularity so high. These are that there are still items, quests, and nuances being discovered to this day.
It was one of the most complex games ever created. It has high re-playability which makes it easy to try a different approach to the gameplay with every new run.
That’s right. The developers continue to make tweaks and updates to the games. All while adding new content or collections of content. This enhances the existing gameplay in numerous ways. It also gives updated entry points to those that are new to Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls series.
There are no plans to stop the redistribution of this game, and the exploding amount of content that the company generates for it. It was platform-neutral at launch, launching both on PC, XBOX, and PlayStation. It has since also had a launch for the Nintendo Switch and has also delivered a product for VR.
Skyrim VR has created total immersion where there are those that don’t play the main game but simply use it as an interface to go for a run in a digital medieval world. One day it may even be available on mobile phones.
To compound, the re-playability, even more, comes from it being one of the most open-sourced game frameworks ever created. That means there are armies of designers and developers who have been adding new content for years now.
This content can range from simple aesthetic designs to completely new quests and items. Ranging all the way to a total revamp and rebuild of the entire game. The mod community itself has done graphic and texture packets to make the game look modernised and stunning in this day and age. All the additional modifications come for free and are there to help enhance the gameplay. The game already provided total immersion.
